1942 Harley-Davidson XA

Blame the Jeep. That’s why this bike never made it into full production—and why, incidentally, military motorcycles of any kind fell out of favor during World War II. But that’s getting ahead of the story. Back in the early 1940s, the U.S. Army asked Harley-Davidson to design a next-generation military motorcycle. The company was already producing the WLA, based on its traditional 45-degree V-twin. But the army wanted a bike with one feature the WLA didn’t have: shaft drive. For its target, Harley chose another well-developed military bike — BMW’s R75, then in use by the German army. Harley’s version, the XA, was a near duplicate, right down to the flat-twin engine. IV Hoggers, The riding season is in full gear. Weather has been extremely weird with tons of rain and then the heat. It’s been frustrating to say the least, but there were still some good days to get out on the road. We have a ton of rides and events posted to the calendar. Check it out and participate. I thought it was important to take some time to talk about our Website, It is a great website and I want to thank Roger Joseph for all of the work he put into it. This is for IVHOG members and civilians who may be interested in what IVHOG is all about. For the first time EVER, we have 95% of our members that have and do access the site. I hope you will take the time to access the site and learn how to navigate around it - it is so important. That is because there is just so much "stuff" out there that helps you understand what IV HOG is about. Fore example, the site talks about upcoming events and provides MapQuest directions for each ride. And Roger has created it in a way that makes your web experience a superior one. Continue reading
