Randy Ziegler

General manager of Dean’s Harley-Davidson in Sellersville. Dean’s Harley-Davidson,Inc. was started by Frank Dean in 1947. He was a farmer who loved riding Harley-Davidson® motorcycles so much that he started selling them in the only facility he had available to him: a chicken coop on his farm in Kulpsville, Pennsylvania. In the late 30s and 40s, he and his wife, Margaret, journeyed to every one of the 48 contiguous states on a Harley® bike. In 1949, he moved his family and business to a newly-built location in Souderton, PA, on what was then Route 309; a well-traveled federal road between Philadelphia and Allentown. Additions to building in 1954, 1975, 1990, and 1998 and the adding of a second Designer Store renovation with three extensive exterior modifications completed the existing original structure. In 1978, he passed away, leaving the business to Frank Dean, Jr. who has been working there since 1971 and took over management in 1978. “Bud” Dean took the dealership to a new level, having supervised the expansion of the physical location from 1975 to present and surviving the hard times of the early 1980s. In 1997, Dean’s celebrated 50 years of service to and for Harley-Davidson, and two generations of loyalty to one brand. In 2002, as Harley-Davidson was gearing up for their 2003, 100 year celebration, Dean’s planned their next evolution. Having outgrown their current location, they purchased, remodeled and expanded an existing building on Route 152 in Sellersville, PA and had their Grand Opening in November of 2004. With the introduction of the 2007 Harley-Davidson® models, Dean’s will be starting a year-long celebration of their 60th year in business. Dean’s Harley-Davidson/Buell; History, Heritage & Commitment.

Harley-Davidson recalls 66,421 motorcycles

Harley-Davidson has issued a massive recall for its ABS-equipped 2014 Touring models. The recall notice affects 66,421 units. At issue is placement of the bike’s front brake line, which may become pinched between the fuel tank and frame and potentially lock-up the front wheel. H-D will notify owners and offer a fix at local dealers free of charge. Dealers will inspect the brake line for damage and replace as necessary. The dealer will also install additional cable straps to ensure the brake line will not become compromised in the future. Continue reading

Two years ago, the Internet circulated patent drawings of a liquid-assisted, cylinder-head cooling scheme from Harley-Davidson, as applied to its Big Twin. This system will now become part of select 2014 Harley models. Purists rebel at the idea of water cooling. They love the air-cooled look of the generously finned Big Twins, which has evolved over the 76 years since the EL became The Motor Company’s first big production overhead-valve engine. They associate water cooling with Japanese-made “faux Harleys” and want nothing to do with that. In many ways, Harley’s appeal is that, in a confusing, changing world, it remains steadfastly itself. Harley to discontinue six models for 2014

HARLEY-DAVIDSON intends to drop half a dozen models from its line-up next year, according to a leaked memo sent out to the company's dealers ahead of its annual dealer convention. The curtain will fall on the XR1200X Sportster, the FXS Softail Blackline and the FLHTC Electra Glide Classic after this year, due to declining sales. The FLHRC Road King Classic will be dropped in North America, while the FLHR Road King gets the axe in other markets. The FLTRX Road Glide Custom and FLTRU Road Glide Ultra tourers will also not be available for 2014, though this will be a temporary affair, as both models are getting a redesign and their manufacturing processes and tooling are due for an update.
