May Is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

As part of Motorcycle Safety Awareness month, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation is calling on all motorists to be on the lookout for more motorcyclists on the road this season. According to the MSF, scooter and new motorcycle sales were up 14.2 percent in 2021, marking the second year in a row that sales figures have grown. Since 2019, sales have improved by 21.8 percent. Add to that a 48 percent increase in enrollment in rider training programs in 2021 over 2020 and you have all the fixings for more riders on the road. Many of these riders are likely to be new as well, increasing the need for heightened vigilance across the board. Continue reading

Gary Ryan

Most recent information that I have on Gary. A lot of people have been asking about visiting, a HOG ride to see him, etc. I have been working almost daily through his daughter and as of last night, they are keeping visitation to only family. She asked Gary about us visiting the other day and he would prefer we not see him when he is not at his best. More to come on that as I correspond with her. As for a benefit for Gary, I am still working on that but have run into a few roadblocks as it pertains to venues and bands. Some of the venues have a price that is so high that we would have to charge a fortune for entrance in order to make any money to help Gary out. Blue Comets have graciously offered their facility at no charge, which is great and I am most thankful for that. Just working out available dates with them and then onto food costs, band, etc. I will definitely need a committee to work on this with me, so if you are interested please let me know as soon as you can. UPDATE ON GARY RYAN

First off, I want to thank all of you who donated so generously this past Sunday to help Gary and his family. As you can well imagine, this unfortunate event is life altering and will require a lifetime of care. On a bit of a brighter note, Gary is being released from the hospital in Billings, Montana, today, Wednesday September 15th and being flown to Philadelphia. He will be transported from the airport to Magee Rehabilitation facility. As much as I would have loved to put together an escort from the airport to Magee, Gary’s daughter thought it was not such a good idea at this time, so we will honor her wishes. Magee will allow only 1 visitor at a time and has rather strict rules pertaining to that. Late Sunday I got word from Tommy Hannum that the dealership will also be making a donation to the fund ! Please continue to keep Gary and his family in your prayers. As I receive more information I will make sure to spread the word. Thank you, Pete Continue reading

Grateful, Overwhelmed & Thankful

Dear IV HOG Friends, A big and heartful thank you to our IV HOG Family. We were overwhelmed with the amount of cards, phone calls, visits and especially the generosity you’ve shown us. It’s hard to explain the feelings that you get from such an outpouring of concern that was shown to us. It’s amazing how many times some of you have sincerely said “If there’s anything I can do for you, please call me”. We’ve been on the giving end of support for “a biker down” but this is our first time on the receiving end. But, if we’re not on the receiving end again, we won’t be disappointed! Thanks IV HOG for all of your support. Gail & Gary McGinty Continue reading

Member Accident

A few weeks ago, Gary and Gail McGinty were injured in a cycle accident. Gary had surgery on his shoulder last week and Gail is also experiencing some issues as a result of the accident. I did not bring this up at the meeting as I was not sure at the time if Gary and Gail wanted it to be common knowledge, but having spoken with him a couple of times I got the approval to share this information. Gary says he is healing well and Gail still has to go for a few more medical tests. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery and reach out to them when you get the opportunity. Continue reading
