Final IVHOG Advanced Rider Safety Course

This Sunday 6/18/2017, is the final IVHOG Advanced RIderCourse session. The first session was sold out with 12 participants who rode, 13 in all. The second session had 4 riders, 5 attendees, leaving 8 slots open. The third session – Father’s Day - has 4 registered, there are currently 8 slots open. While I’m glad that people had the opportunity to attend unfortunately 17 or the 36 people who  originally signed up either had to cancel or simply never returned contact. As some of you are aware the ARC classes are very difficult to get into, especially for groups of any size. It is unusual for 1 class to be dedicated to an organization, to have 3 dedicated is unheard of. If we do this in the future it will likely be limited to a single class, first come, first served – if there is any interest.  Continue reading

Blender pump confusion may lead to inadvertent misfueling with E15 fuel

There is no federal regulation to mandate a new "Flex Fuel" label for the summer. Retailers are attempting to sell E15 fuel in the summer months (June 1 - Sept. 15) as a "Flex Fuel" to circumvent the Reid Vapor Pressure restrictions. RVP is a measure of gasoline's propensity to evaporate. As part of the 1990 Clean Air Act amendments, Congress enacted a provision allowing conventional gasoline to exceed the RVP limit by up to 1 psi provided it contained up to 10 percent ethanol. The 1 psi waiver is not available to ethanol blends greater than 10 percent (e.g., E15). The ethanol industry has asked Congress to extend the 1 psi waiver from E10 to E15, contending that it is needed to allow E15 sales during the summer driving season. Continue reading

TEX MEX 5K Race for Open Space 2017

As some of you may or may not know, I’ve picked up a new hobby and it’s running! I try to sign up for a hand-full of races throughout the year to keep me motivated and there is one race that is near and dear to my heart. The TEX MEX 5K Race for Open Space raises money for the Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association, this local organization preserves open space and maintains and monitors the health of the Wissahickon Creek - our most important natural resource, as well as The Green Ribbon Trail! All the proceeds go to an amazing organization! I enjoy running on the Green Ribbon Trail that runs 21 miles thru these preserved areas from North Wales, PA to Manayunk, PA. Continue reading
