Final Update on Pinhead ( Ron Miner )

I just got off the phone with John Youells. He advised me that Pinhead passed away a short time ago today. At this point I do not have any information on services, etc, but I will make it a point to share that information with everyone. I would like to thank each and every one of you that had escorted him to his spaghetti dinner last week, it meant a lot to him !!! I would also like to thank those of you that attended the event in his honor. He told me how happy he was seeing so many of you at the event. I am thankful that we were able to attend that event and provide him with the cycle escort as our final, yet too soon, farewell to our friend. Pete Continue reading

The Tintype Photographer Who Works Out of a 1938 Harley-Davidson Sidecar

Rob Gibson is a tintype photographer who works in what he calls “the world’s fastest darkroom.” After photographing vintage motorcycle and car events, he develops his tintypes in a 1938 Harley-Davidson sidecar that he zooms around with. “I do wet plate collodion photography, the same process that was done in the 1860s that requires coating a glass or tin photographic plate sensitizing it, rushing it to the camera, making the exposure, rushing it back to the darkroom and developing it before it dries out,” Gibson tells PetaPixel. “This process was done from the 1850s up into the 1880s when eventually dry plate and film took over. “Some of my cameras are well over 150 years old and I use all the same chemicals that were used back then.” Continue reading

THANK YOU

I just wanted to thank all of the members that went out of their way this past Saturday to attend the event at Rockhill Community and Greenfield. That morning at breakfast, Tawmy and I were talking about the fact that we did not know how all of this would play out and how many would be in attendance at either event. As usual, IV HOG does not disappoint !!! We arrived at Rockhill and there were already several bikes there !!! We rolled in with about another 9 or so, bringing the total bikes there to about 15 or so. Continue reading

Acts of kindness: 50 ‘big-hearted’ motorcyclists escort bullied sixth-grader to first day of school

50 bikers escort a bullied 6th-grader to school, Phil Mick says he's been bullied over the past two years and contemplated suicide. On Aug.1, a group of bikers from DeKalb, Ind., escorted him to his first day of middle school. (Amber Ferguson/The Washington Post) Call it the kindness of strangers, a simple gift. Or call it what you will. We know it when we see it and this vignette from DeKalb, Ind., is the real thing. The deed surely will not be forgotten by 11-year-old Phil Mick. Continue reading

Blender pump confusion may lead to inadvertent misfueling with E15 fuel

There is no federal regulation to mandate a new "Flex Fuel" label for the summer. Retailers are attempting to sell E15 fuel in the summer months (June 1 - Sept. 15) as a "Flex Fuel" to circumvent the Reid Vapor Pressure restrictions. RVP is a measure of gasoline's propensity to evaporate. As part of the 1990 Clean Air Act amendments, Congress enacted a provision allowing conventional gasoline to exceed the RVP limit by up to 1 psi provided it contained up to 10 percent ethanol. The 1 psi waiver is not available to ethanol blends greater than 10 percent (e.g., E15). The ethanol industry has asked Congress to extend the 1 psi waiver from E10 to E15, contending that it is needed to allow E15 sales during the summer driving season. Continue reading

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE NEW 2017 ROAD KING?

Harley-Davidson just released the new Road King Special for 2017. This is a huge deal for a few reasons. One being the poor Road King always got the short end of the stick when it came to advancements in technology and style because as H-D said “It is meant to have the classic look.” It was last to get the hydraulic clutch in the Touring family, even the ultras got the new styled lighting in the rear and the poor old Road King was still rocking that dookie giant chrome cross bar honeycomb turn signal setup.
